When Beemon Drugs closed in 2019, Whitney knew that it was the right time to start District Drugs & Mercantile! She's created a place where former patients get the same great customer service that they experienced for so many years at Beemon’s.
Born and raised in New Albany, Mississippi to entrepreneur parents, Whitney Harris long dreamed of starting her own pharmacy. Whitney graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy and completed residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. After completing her residency, Whitney worked as a Clinical Specialist for the Kroger corporation, serving northeast Mississippi and Memphis, ensuring that every pharmacist in the area was up to date with their clinical knowledge.
Whitney then joined the faculty at the University of Mississippi Pharmacy School in Jackson, contributing community-based research and outreach. When Lester Hailey, owner of Beemon Drugs, wanted to expand the clinical side of his pharmacy, he invited Whitney in for an interview and hired her on the spot. She spent four and a half years under Lester’s mentorship and built a number of lasting relationships with doctors and clients, some of which used the pharmacy for three generations, since its opening in 1956.
